We at DIGNITY are shocked and saddened by the tragic killing of Ihab Marwan Kamal Faisal, his wife Hanin Jamal Al-Dahdouh, and their two children, Reem (6) and Najma (5), who were killed by an Israeli airstrike Thursday morning in Gaza City.
Ihab Marwan Kamal Faisal was a staff member at our partner organization Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), one of the few human rights organizations still operating in Gaza.
The killing of Ihab Marwan Kamal Faisal is a painful reminder of Israeli military’s indiscriminate killing of civilians, perpetrated alongside other serious violations of international law against Palestinians in Gaza, including those who dedicate their lives to defending human rights.
In February last year, Israeli airstrikes killed PCHR lawyers Nour Abu Al-Nour and Dana Yaghi, along with their families, in two separate incidents.
The targeting of human rights defenders is unacceptable. The international community must live up to its responsibilities and insist on accountability.
